The branches are cylindrical and lined with small paired spines and rows of raised tubercles, and mature plants can spread far wider than they are tall. Small yellow cyathia, the flower structures typical of the genus, appear at the tips. Origins It is a Tanzanian species, known from the Kondoa District in the centre of the country.
