Under Shaka Zulu, the Zulu warrior carried a short stabbing spear with an approximate 8 10 inch blade over 1. 5 inches wide fastened with wrapping to a 30" long wooden shaft. The ZULU IKLWA is a shorter style assegai. This weapon was known as the iklwa or ixwa for the sound that was heard as it was withdrawn from the victim's wound.
