Last manned lunar landing in mankind's history (so far): Apollo 17 Apollo 17 took the 11th and 12th people to the moon's surface in 1972. It was the first mission to include a scientist in its crew. Geologist "Jack" Schmitt was selected in 1965. Schmitt was chosen over crew member Joe Engle.
