Very good vintage condition overall and structurally very sound with some scattered lost/split stitches as pictured

Still looks bright and sharp

and as such I think it is just perfect

I'm not quite sure what it is, I guess the end shoulder of an old tool, with the layers of wrapping looking like a combination of wool and leather and I'm not sure what all bound with string creating a cushion for the edge of iron underneath. As found, to my eye quite a satisfying thing. Due to the weight of the iron, this wants to tip over, so needs to lean against
